The Vermont Foodbank’s mobile food pantry, VeggieVanGo, will roll into CVMC on six Fridays: Jan. 26, Feb. 23, March 23, April 27, May 25 and June 22. The van lives up to its colorful name, delivering vibrant free produce that promotes better health through food.
Community members experiencing food insecurity are invited to pick up these free groceries from 9 to 11 a.m. in conference rooms 1 and 2 on the hospital’s lower level.
The mobile food pantry is an extension of CVMC’s Health Care Share program, a food assistance collaboration with Vermont Youth Conservation Corps (VYCC), created to provide healthy food and nutrition education to patients and community members. Each week of the growing season, nearly 600 people receive shares of fresh vegetables, herbs and pasture-raised poultry from the Farm at VYCC in Richmond.
VeggieVanGo allows the Health Care Share to expand during the non-growing season to fill nutrition gaps for families while the VYCC farm is closed.
